Mid-century modern Lumi Model 1305/15 floor lamp by Pia Guidetti Crippa Italy 1970s
LumiA sculptural floor lamp that looks like a bouquet of light. Fifteen glass globes float on slender, curved stems that fan out of a slim, vase-shaped brass-toned base. Switched off, it is a graceful sculpture. Switched on, the spheres glow like a bunch of luminous flowers.
This is the Lumi model 1305/15 by Pia Guidetti Crippa, Italy, 1970s. It has three lighting settings: 7 bulbs for a soft ambient glow, 8 bulbs for a warmer mid-level light, or all 15 for a dramatic, full display. One lamp works as mood light, accent light and statement piece.
The lamp has a place in cinema history. It can be seen in the background of Alain Delon's cult thriller Tony Arzenta (1973, directed by Duccio Tessari, released in the US as No Way Out), and in the artwork of the Italian Super 8 edition. It is a rare piece for collectors of Italian design, 1970s film and Delon.
It fits a living room, entrance hall, library or hotel lobby. It sits well next to a leather armchair or a sculptural sofa, and works in mid-century, Hollywood Regency, Space Age and contemporary interiors alike.
Dimensions: H.177 x D.110 cm / H.69.7 x D.43.3 in
About the designer, Pia Guidetti Crippa: Italian designer who graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan in 1967. From the end of the 1960s she focused on furniture and lighting, and she designed for Lumi for around thirty years. She explored brass, iron and aluminum and their finishes. Her lamps are often called "luminous objects": rounded in line, scenic, and as important as furniture as they are as light sources. She is associated with the Milanese design circle around Munari, Joe Colombo, Zanuso and Mari.
About the manufacturer, Lumi Milano: Founded in Milan in 1944 by Carlo Antonio Crippa as a small workshop. Lumi grew into one of Italy's notable lighting houses, combining skilled craftsmanship with industrial innovation. It is documented in Giuliana Gramigna's reference work on Italian design companies, 1950–2000.
The height of the base is 65 cm and has a diameter of 25 cm.
