An elegant Model 68 armchair in solid oak with a hand-woven natural papercord seat, designed in 1981 by Niels Otto Møller for J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik — one of the final designs Møller completed before his death in 1982. The chair carries every hallmark of his mature style: a gently curved ladder back with four horizontal slats, tapered sculpted legs, and armrests that flow seamlessly into the frame with softly rounded terminals. The joinery is crisp and confident, the oak grain left to speak for itself under a warm, lightly lacquered finish.

Møller had spent nearly four decades refining the vocabulary of the Danish dining chair by the time he designed the Model 68, and the model reads as a distillation of that experience — the structural honesty of his celebrated Model 78 combined with a slightly more architectural, ladder-back silhouette. It is a design built for daily use as much as for admiration: stackable, sturdy, and comfortable, with the natural cord seat lending both visual lightness and quiet tactile warmth.

About the designer:

Niels Otto Møller (1920–1982) trained as a cabinetmaker before studying at the Aarhus School of Design, and in 1944 founded his own furniture workshop, J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik, becoming both designer and manufacturer of every model the company produced. His chairs — most famously the Model 78 — became emblematic of Danish design's postwar golden age: rigorous joinery, an economy of form, and materials chosen for honesty rather than ornament. In 1981, the year this chair was designed, J.L. Møllers received a Danish furniture industry prize recognizing the firm's fusion of craftsmanship and modern production methods.

About the manufacturer:

J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik remains a family-run workshop in Denmark and continues to produce Niels O. Møller's designs using largely the same techniques established under his direction, making the firm a rare case of unbroken continuity between original designer and current production — a detail worth noting for buyers weighing vintage authenticity against ongoing manufacture.
