Mid-century modern Jatoba veneer Vanity dressing table with tilting mirror and brushed Aluminum, 1970s
Vintage ObjectsMid-century modern Jatoba veneer Vanity dressing table with tilting mirror and brushed Aluminum, 1970s
This 1970s mid-century modern vanity has the clean, architectural lines of the best Italian-inspired design of the period. A long cantilevered cabinet appears to float above a single vertical support panel. Below it, a sculptural base of brushed aluminum gives the piece its poise.
The cabinet is finished in warm jatoba wood veneer. The grain runs in dark chocolate, russet and amber, and the figure is especially rich across the drawer fronts and side panels. Two long drawers with slim brushed aluminum handles flank a central locking compartment, so there is plenty of discreet storage. Above them, a raised top surface with a black lining and low side walls holds perfumes, jewelry and brushes. A rectangular mirror in a matching wooden frame sits on slender brushed aluminum arms and tilts to the angle you want.
Today it works as an elegant dressing table, a console or sideboard in an entrance hall, or a statement desk in a bedroom or dressing room. The contrast between the rich exotic hardwood and the cool, satin-finished aluminum gives it a refined, sculptural presence that suits mid-century, Italian modern and contemporary interiors alike.
