GE-265 Solid oak lounge chair by Hans J. Wegner for Getama, Denmark, Kvadrat wool
Vintage ObjectsGE-265 solid Oak lounge chair by Hans J. Wegner for Getama, Denmark, Kvadrat wool
Hans J. Wegner's GE-265 lounge chair for Getama, in solid oak with its original Kvadrat wool upholstery. Danish mid-century modern at its most sculptural, signed by the Getama label.
This GE-265 lounge chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner and made by Getama in Denmark. The solid oak frame is built from rounded, hand-finished members that flow into each other. The sculpted armrests flare into a paddle shape, and the side frames curve down into a gently raked back. Every joint is visible and honest, which is what makes Wegner's furniture so recognizable.
The loose seat and back cushions are covered in the original Kvadrat wool in a warm, flecked brown that complements the golden oak. Both cushions have concealed zippers. Under the seat, the original Getama spring suspension is intact, with its quilted, Getama-branded lining. The chair is marked on the underside with the Getama label: "Getama – Design: Hans J. Wegner – Made in Denmark."
With its low, open profile and comfortable seat height, the GE-265 works as a lounge chair in a living room, library or reading corner. It also suits a bedroom or an office seating area. The oak ages well and develops a richer patina over time.

Very good vintage condition, with the original Kvadrat upholstery and an intact spring suspension. The oak shows only light, age-appropriate wear and a warm natural patina.
Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) is regarded as one of the most important furniture designers of the 20th century. Born in Tønder, Denmark, he trained as a cabinetmaker before studying at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts. He designed more than 500 chairs and is best known for The Chair (1949), the Wishbone Chair (CH24) and the Papa Bear Chair. Wegner approached each chair as a craftsman, stripping the form down to its essentials while keeping it comfortable. His work is in the permanent collections of the MoMA in New York and the Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen, among others.
Getama is a Danish furniture manufacturer from Gedsted in Jutland, founded in 1946. The company produced Wegner's designs from the late 1940s onward, including sofas, daybeds and lounge chairs. These pieces were known for solid oak and beech frames, careful joinery and flex-spring suspension. The "GE" in model names such as GE-265 refers to Getama. Pieces from the Wegner and Getama partnership are widely collected today.
Kvadrat is a Danish textile company founded in 1968. It supplies upholstery fabrics to leading designers and manufacturers, and its wool textiles are known for their quality and colour. Original Kvadrat upholstery adds to the authenticity and collectability of a piece like this.
