Art deco style Cubist male bust in white lacquered resin in the manner of Karl Hagenauer 1970s
Vintage ObjectsThis tall, elegant bust shows a stylized man's head in the Art Deco Cubist tradition. The face is built from sharp, faceted planes, with a strong angular nose, a firm mouth and a squared chin. The hair is sculpted as stepped, geometric bands that echo the great Deco sculptors of the 1920s and 30s. It was made in the 1970s, when the Deco revival was at its height.
The most striking feature is the silhouette. A long, gracefully curved neck sweeps down into a flat, blade-like torso, so the head seems to hover in a quiet, contemplative bow. The piece is finished in a high-gloss white lacquer that catches the light across every facet and changes character with each angle. It stands on its original clear acrylic plate, which gives it a floating, gallery-like presence.
Made from synthetic resin (kunststof), it is surprisingly light for its size. It works well on a console, sideboard or plinth, and it suits Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, minimalist and contemporary interiors alike. Sculptural, graphic and quietly dramatic, it brings height and a clear point of focus to any room.
