Rare Mid-Century Modern Side Table by Herbert Hirche for Rosenthal, Germany, Early 1960s

A rare and refined Mid-Century Modern side table designed by Herbert Hirche for Rosenthal, Germany, early 1960s. This elegant piece embodies Hirche’s Bauhaus-rooted design philosophy, characterized by architectural clarity, strict geometry, and refined material contrasts.

The tabletop features an exceptional copper mosaic surface, composed of a rhythmic arrangement of squares and circles that creates depth, texture, and a subtle play of light. The warm patina of the copper is beautifully offset by the slender black metal frame, lending the table a light yet sculptural presence. Compact in scale but visually strong, it functions equally well as a side table, occasional table, or accent piece.

A sophisticated example of early 1960s German modernism, this table reflects the transition from postwar functionalism to a more expressive yet disciplined design language. Works by Herbert Hirche are increasingly rare and highly sought after by collectors of serious European modern design.
