Pierre Paulin1970s F598 “Groovy” M easy chair by Pierre Paulin for Artifort, the Netherlands – sculptural mid-century modern icon
DESCRIPTION
An iconic and highly collectible F598 “Groovy” easy chair, also known as the M-Chair, designed in the early 1970s by visionary French designer Pierre Paulin and produced by the renowned Dutch manufacturer Artifort.
Celebrated for its fluid, sculptural silhouette, this chair embodies the playful yet sophisticated spirit of Space Age and Mid-Century Modern design. The distinctive “M”-shaped profile—with its continuous flowing lines and low, inviting stance—creates a statement piece that is both visually striking and exceptionally comfortable.
Crafted with a tubular steel frame, molded foam, and tight upholstery, the design showcases Paulin’s revolutionary approach to seating—where form, comfort, and innovation seamlessly merge. Perfect as a standalone accent chair or within a curated design interior, the Groovy chair remains one of the most recognizable and sought-after models from the Artifort collection.
We currently have two examples available of this iconic model, making it possible to create a strong visual pairing in an interior setting.
CONDITION & UPHOLSTERY
Both chairs are upholstered in a high-quality black wool fabric, comparable to Kvadrat textiles, offering a refined texture and a timeless, architectural look that enhances the sculptural character of the design.
They are in very good vintage condition, showing only light, age-appropriate wear. One of the chairs features a minor, professionally executed fabric repair on one of the front legs, which remains subtle and does not detract from the overall appearance or functionality.
