This exquisite and rare “Vase with Feathers” by Renate Weidner (German, b. 1943) is a remarkable example of her innovative and poetic approach to contemporary ceramics. Created in 2004, the piece seamlessly merges refined ceramic craftsmanship with organic materiality. The flared vessel is delicately adorned with a crown of natural feathers, creating a striking interplay between structure and fragility, tradition and experimentation.

The surface of the vase is decorated with a rhythmic pattern of hand-applied metallic circles, set against a matte dark ground. The combination of tactile glaze work and the soft, airy feather detailing gives this piece a unique sculptural presence. The vase is monogrammed on the bottom, attesting to its authenticity and the artist’s hand.

Renate Weidner is a celebrated German ceramic artist known for her distinctive fusion of classical vessel forms with unexpected materials and surface treatments. Working from her studio in Germany, she has developed a personal language that blends contemporary design sensibilities with traditional ceramic techniques. Her works often explore themes of balance, materiality, and contrast — juxtaposing the permanence of clay with the ephemeral quality of feathers, textiles, or natural elements. The vase will be shipped insured overseas in a custom made wooden crate. Cost of transport to the US, Euro 275, is crate included.
